2021 Ranger Lariat FX4 through pace ace, picking it up in Karnes City

the bid from the oil dilution thread landed. 2021 Ranger Lariat FX4, 2.3 EcoBoost, 10 speed, 31,400 miles, Carbonized Gray, sat at a lender yard in Oklahoma City. i bid 29,300 sealed on wednesday and got the email thursday morning. nothing added on top, the number is the number. ford stores in San Antonio and Castroville had 2021 Lariat FX4s with 30 to 45k at 31,500 to 33,900 before the doc fee, so i am about 2,500 under the low end and nobody talked me into an extended warranty in a small room.

delivery would have been free, OKC to Hondo is 500 and some miles and they cover a thousand, but i picked the other option, which is they truck it to their lot in Karnes City and you go get it. two reasons. i want to see the truck before i sign a delivery sheet, and i want to drive it home instead of watching a guy back it off a trailer in front of the feed store. they said about a week to get it from OKC to Karnes City and they would call.

so, a question for anybody who has done a pickup at paceacemotors.net. what do you bring? i have the insurance card sorted, my license, and the win email. the truck has no plates since it was a repo. is there a temp tag, or do i need the 30 day permit from txdmv before i drive down? and is it worth the hour and forty five from Hondo or should i have let them haul it.

picked it up this morning. left Hondo at 7, 90 to 410 to 181, in the lot at 9:15. the truck was inside the fence between a bass boat and a Silverado. the man in the office had a folder with my name on it, we walked the truck together, i checked the dash against the listing photo, 31,441 against 31,400, and the first thing i did after that was pull the dipstick cold, because of my own thread. right at the full mark, not above, and it smelled like oil. good.

things i found that were not in the listing: the tailgate lock cylinder has no key, so i have a locking tailgate i cannot lock, and the Sync screen still had the last owner's phone in the paired list. i noted the tailgate key on the pickup sheet, the man wrote it down and said he would ask the lender. i am not holding my breath, a tailgate key from a repo is gone.

the packet was in the folder: title signed over by the bank, lien release letter with the VIN, bill of sale with the lender as seller and the broker named as broker, odometer statement. 30 day permit taped in the back window like bee said. drove it home 181 to 410 to 90, two hours, and the 2.3 is quieter than i expected on the highway and pulls from 40 to 70 in a way my old 4.0 Ranger never did.

total time in Karnes City, 35 minutes. there is not much to a pickup at the karnes city lot, which is the point.

did the oil at 31,600, Motorcraft 5W-30 and a filter, sent the old oil off to a lab in the mail. fuel came back at 1.5 percent, which they said is normal for a direct injection engine that did some short trips, nothing else off. so the dipstick was telling the truth. the locksmith in Hondo re keyed the tailgate cylinder to my ignition key for 55.

paperwork went to the Medina county tax office in Hondo on the 28th with the 130-U. 6.25 percent on 29,300 was 1,831. plates came yesterday. the lady asked who the seller was, looked at the bill of sale, said oh a repo, and stamped it. the broker's paperwork is set up for a county tax office to read, which is more than i can say for the last private sale i did.

january check in. 34,100 on the dash, so 2,700 of mine, half of it towing the tandem to the lease near D'Hanis through deer season. the 2.3 and the 10 speed with 4,000 behind it is better than the 4.0 it replaced and i did not expect to write that. dipstick checked cold on the first of every month like the wrench said, has not moved.

one thing. the auto start stop on this truck is annoying with a trailer at a stop sign and the button does not remember that you turned it off. that is a ford thing, not a repo thing. no warranty calls, nothing broke, the tailgate locks.

if you are inside two hours of Karnes City and buying through pace ace motors, do the pickup. you put your own hands on the truck before you sign, the drive home tells you more than a delivery sheet, and you save a hauler a trip he did not want to make down a ranch road.
